So on Friday, after returning from my Vegas trip with David (LA David), realizing that my hot pink iPod with possibly the best 8 gigs of music in the history of music, ever, was lost, I received a troubling email. This email was to inform me that at the
end of this year, my health insurance is up and I need to get a new job that has benefits. Not the end of the world, but not fun either, right? This is a bigger deal for me than it is for others, because I'm very expensive to insure. True story. I think it's the fact that I am the only Jew I know who has naturally stick-straight hair. Also, our wonderful roommate Monique is moving out, taking up an offer of free rent with her uncle. I mean, fair enough, right? Who doesn't want free rent? So, the roommate search begins once again. Jeanne has fled the state in order to pursue her future as a doctor. She's now in med school in Arizona, which means that I'll probably be seeing her once every 6 years or so until she retires. Great. Abandonment issues much?
These things are all part of life. It's unfortunate, however, that
said events were followed by an exceedingly bad chain of events. So I woke up early on Tuesday, thinking I had an early dentist appointment. Well, after sitting for nearly 30 minutes in the waiting room reading this fabulous book One Fifth Avenue, by Candice Bushnell, I thought I should really inquire about the situation at hand. I was told that my appointment was on Friday, and that I had no appointment on this day. Great. Just great. I get to call out yet another day of work, which is hardly a good idea considering all of the irrational spending I did around my birthday. So I headed to Coffee Bean to try to get some work done. It went really well, and, in fact, I'm here again now, because it's free hi-speed internet and super interesting people watching on Fillmore. Anyways, while at Coffee Bean, or at some other point in the day, my wallet went missing. Not just a wallet. My fucking Gucci wallet that I LOVE, with money, debit cards, and my ID. Also in the Gucci:
Fine Arts Museums of SF Membership CardGift card to American Apparel, Sephora, and Barnes and Noble
My SUBWAY rewards card - damn, I was so close to a free foot-long!
Clipper card with like $30 on it
Some important numbers to accounts that would be valuable if the thief knows how to use them
A love letter from the Greek
My lucky $2 bill
The list goes on and on...
It was a large wallet. And expensive. And impossible to replace on my budget.
I didn't realize that the aforementioned missing wallet was even a situation until the following morning. Before I was enlightened about that situation, however, I had yet another case of missing property hit me like a pile of bricks on the head.
While at Planet Granite, having an epic climbing session sprinkled with flirtatious looks from hot, shirtless men, I ran out to the car to grab my headphones, came back into the gym, and jumped on the elliptical machine. I had a rockin' 45-minute workout, then headed back downstairs to the climbing area, where I bumped into the Greek. We chatted for a minute, and he showed me some bouldering problems that he was working on, sans shirt (mmmm). We hung out for a while, climbing with his friends, and then I decided that it was time to head home. This was around 7 pm. I said my goodbyes to the 7 dudes that I had been talking to, and headed to the parking lot. About 16 strides out the door, I realized that I had no keys. this isn't something that often happens to me. I am relatively careful when it comes to important things like keys and wallets... Usually.
I scoured the gym for my keys for about twenty minutes before asking the front desk. They had not received any keys, and told me to hang around, as these things usually turn up after some time. I went with it, and climbed for a bit with my friend Evan. At about 8:30, I realized that I should really start hunting for my keys again, and enlisted the Greek, as well as every other person in the gym willing to help, which included most of the staff. After about 30 minutes, everyone kinda gave up. I, of course, was unable to leave the gym, keys missing and all. The staff suggested that I either catch a ride home and call to check in, or hang around til closing time, when it would be easier to look. Closing time, huh? Too bad that's at 11.
The Greek agreed to hang around with me, and take me to dinner while we waited for the gym to clear out. Who am I to turn down a Mexican fiesta at La Barca? So my mom came down to pick up the car, and I returned to the gym after dinner only to find it empty and without my keys. The staff even looked through the trash cans! FML.
So I got a ride home from the Greek, and that brings me up to the following morning (Wednesday), when I realized that I was without both keys AND a wallet.
I am exhausted, and I can't imagine that this post is all that interesting. So I'll leave you with this: Whoever stole my wallet decided to go on a major shopping spree at THE GAP and fill up about 4 tanks at Valero. Really, though? For fuck's sake, go on a shopping spree at Saks or Bloomie's! WHY the Gap? Wtf? Also, what kind of douche bag uses a stolen HELLO KITTY DEBIT CARD?

My seat at the Coffee Bean is directly facing the front door to the Marc by Marc Jacobs store, and I simply cannot ignore my impulse to go in any longer. See ya!
OMG hello kitty debit card - i friggin' love u!!!
